Tulissia Sturges, age 31, of Coleman, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene with her family by her side.

The family will host a time of visitation and reflection from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating her life at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aaron Mitchell, pastor of Concho Baptist Church officiating. Ed Smith, Joel Libramento, and Jill Libramento will assist. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

She was born Mary Tulissia Sturges on September 30, 1990, in Austell, Georgia. Tulissia grew up in Powder Springs, Georgia and then moved to Coleman at the age of sixteen. During her school years, Tulissia was a cheerleader and a member of Praise in Motion. She graduated from Coleman High School in 2010. After graduation, Tulissia worked as a babysitter and focused on her ministry in spreading the word of God. She was a devout member of Concho Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a children’s church worker, and was drama director for the children’s programs for Christmas, Easter, and 4th of July. She also taught under the umbrella of her mother at Coleman Christian Academy. Her ministry with children was especially important to her. She loved spending time with the children and helping them understand the importance of living a life for Christ. Tulissia was a beautiful person inside and out; from her beautiful smile to the bright vibrant colors she wore made Tulissia the loveable and unique person she was. Recently, Tulissia and her mother created the T-N-T (Tulissia and Tressia) music ministry, going to churches and spreading the word of God through music and laughter. She loved to cook, especially her hashbrown casserole, which she perfected through the years. She also loved all animals and enjoyed latch hook and reading.

Tulissia always put God first, and next to God, was her mother Tressia. The two were inseparable and have a love that even death cannot steal. Tulissia quoted that her mother was the definition of Proverbs 31:25; “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”  This verse also describes the person that Tulissia was. Her strength and beauty were one of a kind. She will be greatly missed.

Tulissia’s favorite Bible verses were Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

Tulissia is joined in heaven by her maternal grandparents, Vernon and Mary Slate.

She is survived by her mother, Tressia Sturges of Coleman, Vern Slate and wife Rhonda (Uncle Bubba and Aunt Rhoni) of Bangs, her “Brothers” Zach Slate of Brownwood and Tyson Slate of Dallas, her aunts and uncles, Alan Tomberlin and wife Lynn of Winston, Georgia, Julie Black and husband Jason of Sylvester, Georgia; her paternal grandparents, Earnest and Priscilla Tomberlin of Mableton, Georgia; and many cousins and friends.
