Robin LaVerne (Leatherman) Simms

February 12, 1964 — December 2, 2021

COLEMAN

Robin LaVerne Leatherman Simms, 57, of Coleman, passed away December 2, 2021 at Hendricks Medical Center in Abilene.  She will be buried at Brown Ranch Cemetery in her family plot.  Services were entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home. Due to current health and safety concerns, there will be a family gathering at a later date to celebrate Robin’s life.

Robin was born February 12, 1964 in Limestone County, Texas the daughter of Robert Kenneth Leatherman Sr. and Gene LaVerne Heaton Leatherman.  She grew up in Houston before moving to Fisk with her family.  Her mother had a long battle with various illnesses and passed away when Robin was 18 years old.  The only daughter of four children, she sacrificed her school attendance to help out at home.  After the passing of her mother, she moved back to Houston to live with family.  In 1983 she married Edward Lee Simms Sr. in Houston, Texas and started the family she always dreamed of.  She was very determined and the thought of never finishing high school lead her to Caps High School at Talpa Centennial.  In 1993, at the age of 29, she finally received her high school diploma.  She cared deeply for her family and friends and devoted her life to raising a daughter and on occasion, three step-sons. She enjoyed being able to stay home and tend to her family.  If she wasn’t bragging about her grandchildren or great granddaughter you would hear her talking about her other “children”. Her chihuahuas were more than just animals to her, they too were her children.  Robin had an artistic streak and would sit and color all day if she could.  You could always catch her doodling on something.  Robin was a very private person, never caring to be the center of attention.  She was a quiet, loving soul.  She was a short lady but, man,  could she be fierce and scary when need be and everyone knew to leave her alone.  She had a hard life and had to grow up quicker than most, but you would never hear her complain.  She was blessed with the privilege to be called Nana.  She spent each moment she could with her grandchildren and great granddaughter.  They truly were the light of her eyes.

Robin is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and LaVerne Leatherman, her brother Rodney Dwayne Leatherman Sr. and a granddaughter Kelsey Margaret Copeland.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Edward Lee Simms Sr. of Coleman Texas; her daughter Tammy and Christopher Burfield of Brownwood, Texas. Step-sons; Lee Simms of Alto, Texas, Tim and Jennifer Simms of Palestine, Texas and Cory Simms of Palestine, Texas; her grandchildren, Private Joseph Johnson Jr. of Fort Benning, Georgia, Cheyenne Johnson and boyfriend Alejandro Salas of Coleman, Texas, Alexia Burfield of Lake Brownwood, Texas and Jeremy Simms of Dallas, Texas; great granddaughter Candi Salas; her brothers, Robert Kenneth Leatherman Jr and Randy Gene Leatherman of Fisk, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Simms family.
