Jimmy Hemphill, age 91, of Coleman, died at his residence on Wednesday, August 3, 2022. The family will host a time of visitation on Saturday, August 6, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan, Coleman. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, at the Glen Cove Baptist Church, 107 County Road 449, Coleman,  with Pastor Zackery Ailshie officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born on December 20, 1930 in Coleman County, the son of Charles Wade Hemphill and Anne Elizabeth Weatherred Hemphill. Although he was named Charles James Hemphill, he was always known as Jimmy. He grew up in Coleman County and graduated from Coleman High School, Class of 1948. Jimmy married Sue Wilson on February 16, 1952 in Leaday and they celebrated 50 years of marriage, prior to her death on November 14, 2002. He was a life-long resident of Coleman County where he was a rancher. He also served for a number of years in the National Guard in Coleman and Ballinger and attained the rank of Captain.

Jimmy was a devout Christian, who was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Coleman where he served as Chairman of the Deacons. He was a Sunday School teacher for high school students and later for the men’s class, at First Baptist Church. For the last 10 years, he attended Glen Cove Baptist Church. He was a past recipient of the Lone Star FFA Degree. He was involved in the community in many areas including, the Coleman Rodeo Association where he served as vice president. He also served on the school board at Talpa-Centennial, was named Outstanding 4-H Leader and awarded the First Baptist Church, Male Senior Adult of the Year 2002.

Jimmy was a gentlemen, who always took off his hat when speaking to a lady. He was raised with solid values and retained them his whole life. He fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Edington of Coleman and Jamie Pool of Stephenville; one son, Charlie Hemphill of Valera; four grandchildren, Jim Bob Edington and wife Elizabeth of Coleman, Trey Pool and wife Luci of Weatherford, Hayes Edington of Kyle and Taylor Pool of Stephenville; four great-grandchildren, Jeffery Edington and wife Selena, Sadie Edington, Lani Pool and Laci Pool; one sister, Ruth Ann Hemphill Taylor of Coleman; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son-in-law, Jim Pool.
