Elaine (Laird) Coleman

Elaine Coleman, a woman of strong faith, went to her heavenly home on August 6, 2022. Elaine was born to Calvin and Bessie Laird on June 20, 1955. Elaine was the first of three children. She took pride in being the big sister. Her family made a move from Lawn, Texas to Stilwell, Oklahoma in 1972. That is where she met and married the love of her life Jerry Coleman, on January 20, 1973. There they started a family welcoming their first daughter. They later moved to Hamlin, Texas and welcomed a second daughter to their family. Elaine worked as a wife and mother for many years. In 1988, the family moved to Rising Star, Texas. In the 90’s she took a job working as a newspaper editor giving her the opportunity to pursue a career in her greatest passion, writing.  During her time as a newspaper editor, she started working on a book. In January of 2001, Elaine and Jerry moved to Winters, Texas. Elaine’s first book Texas Haunted Forts was published that year after the move. She has since published many different books including fiction, cookbooks, and biographies. If she was not writing you might find her sewing, quilting or even crocheting. She collected antiques, poodles, flamingos, Elvis memorabilia, and many other things. She loved visiting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of many different groups and clubs. She did genealogy research on her family. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she was a member of Women’s Missionary Union, taught the women’s Sunday school class, and helped gather charity donations. Sometimes she could even talk Jerry into take a sightseeing trip occasionally to appease her longing to travel.

Elaine is preceded in death, by her parents Calvin and Bessie Laird. She is survived by her husband Jerry Coleman of Winters, TX, her daughter Racheal Malo and husband James of Lawn, TX, daughter Rebecca Brown and husband William of Winters, TX, her sister Teresia Turner and husband Wayne of Lawn, TX, brother Russel Laird of Lawn, TX, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will host a time of visitation and reflection from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.  Family and friends are invited to a funeral service celebrating her life at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ferris Akins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Atoka Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

Memorials are suggested in memory of Elaine to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1651 Pine Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.
