Deward Clinton Templeton, known to his loved ones as D.C. and Grandad, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023, at Focused Care at Crane, Texas. He was born on January 25, 1938, in Coleman, Texas, to proud parents, Herbert Lee Templeton, Sr. and Irene Agatha McAnally Templeton, who raised him with love and care.
D.C. was a devoted family man who cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his beloved children, Vicki Templeton of Rankin, Ed Templeton of Rankin, Micki Templeton of Brady, Bobbi Jane Templeton of Rankin, Clint Templeton and wife Carrie of Rankin; his cherished grandchildren Cheyenne Norris and husband Kris, Morgan Ward and husband Chris, Logan Templeton and wife Isabelle, Brittany McIntosh and husband Tyler, Amye Griffin and husband Devan, Camryn Templeton, T.J. Templeton, Chase Brooks and wife Janet, Chelsea Gonzales and husband Paul; ten and a half great-grandchildren, Saylor Jaye Gonzales, Kayce Kaye Norris, Klelle Keith Norris, Kreely Kate Norris, Chandler Kay Templeton, Sagen Rayne Templeton, Teagan Layne Templeton, Schaefer Ross Templeton, Kyla Grace Griffin, Everleigh Rayne McIntosh, and baby boy Ward due in February 2024, as well as beloved friend, Beth Vance and her family of San Angelo; nieces and nephews, Becky Johnson, Judy McCorkle, Bobby Corder and wife Kelly and their children, Sherri, Christi, Misti, Kelby, Tanner, Tyler, Jacob, Cody and their children, Jansen, Cayden, Connor, Jaylie, Brant, Brady, Kylee, Miley and Miles, Michelle Collier and husband Mike and son Marc of Abilene;
Having obtained his high school diploma from Novice High School in 1956, D.C. worked for Ed and Patsy Graves on their ranch at Silver Valley, one of his favorite jobs. D.C. went on to excel in the oil field industry as a consultant. His work allowed him to contribute significantly to the growth and prosperity of this field. He also served his country in the Texas Army National Guard.
While D.C.'s profession demanded dedication and long hours, he always made time for his loved ones. He treasured family gatherings and creating lasting memories with his children and grandchildren. Whether it was family reunions, or simply sharing stories around the table, these moments brought him immense joy.
His family will host a visitation on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas., with Bro. Troy Strickland officiating and eulogy given by Mike Collier. He will be laid to rest with his family in Silver Valley Cemetery in Coleman County, Texas.
In his passing, D.C. leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was extremely proud of his Choctaw heritage inherited from his mother and passed his love of horses and dogs to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother H. L. Templeton, Jr., and sister Wanda Corder.
In his later years, purple and red became D.C.’s favorite colors, so if you want to wear those colors to honor his life, please do so.
