Allen E. Turner, age 86, of Voss, died Monday, April 26, 2021. His family will host a visitation on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 30, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Alan Wallace officiating and assisted by Rev. Ferris Akins. Interment will follow in the Voss Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Allen was born in Coleman, Texas, on June 13, 1934, the son of Fred and Shana Turner. He attended school at Voss and graduated from Mozelle High School in 1951. He received a Bachelor of Science degree and Master’s degree from Texas A&M University. While attending Texas A&M, he played for the Aggie baseball team, was a welter-weight boxing champion,  and was on the livestock judging team. On June 8, 1957 he married Nanallene Miller at First Baptist Church in Coleman. She preceded him in death on February 27, 2021.

Prior to working for the Extension Service, Allen was employed by Shirley Livestock Commission as a Salesman and Order Buyer. Allen served in the Texas A&M Extension service from 1957-1988, as an Assistant Agent in Wichita Falls and Taylor Counties, as a County Agent in Menard, Runnels  and Tom Green Counties as well as District 7 Agent at the AgriLife Center in San Angelo.

Allen retired from the Extension Service in 1988 with 34 years of service. After a couple of years of retirement, Allen went back to work at the First Coleman National Bank (now Coleman InterBank) from 1990-2014. He retired from banking and went back to ranching full-time. Allen felt it was his privilege to have worked for 54 years and be able to continue ranching until the time of his passing.

He was a past president of Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers’ Association. He also received the TSGRA County Agent of the Year Award, the Superior Service Award from the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and the 2020 Earwood Award. He was a member of the American Sheep Industry Association, and  a member of the Coleman Masonic Lodge #496. Allen was due to receive his 60 year pin this week.. He was also a member and a deacon of the Gouldbusk Baptist Church. He touched the lives of many people through his endeavors. His love for farming, ranching, and family are memorable to all. Allen’s legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched.

Allen is survived by four children: Melissa Faubion and husband Cliff, son Lanny Turner and wife Cheri, daughter Janelle Turner, daughter Raenese Byrom and husband Randy, and special family friend Brenda Conway. He is also survived by grandchildren Cody Faubion and fiance Karesa, Courtney and Sam Perry,  Cameron and Jessica Faubion,  Matthew and Kelly Turner, Mitchell and Heather Turner, Ashley Byrom and Rhett Payne, and  Jamie Byrom. He was very proud of his 6 great grandchildren . Allen is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ermanelle Penny, and several beloved nieces and nephews and special family friends.
