William Floyd "Bill" Cox

July 15, 1924 — April 13, 2017

William Floyd (Bill) Cox, 92, of Coleman, passed away on April 13, 2017, in the comfort of his home. He was born July 15, 1924 to Ben Cox and Irene Broad Cox. He attended schools in Coleman, graduating in 1941. He then attended Daniel Baker College in Brownwood before joining the Army. He spent much of his time in St. Louis, Missouri, where he was assigned to work as a dental technician. He returned to Daniel Baker College and graduated, then went on to Texas Tech University, where he graduated with a Masters Degree in Etymology. While at Texas Tech, he met Emma Sue Guyer and was soon married. Together, they had four children, Olivia, Russell, Morris and Dwight. They celebrated 25 years of marriage. In 1977, Bill married Mary Patricia (Pat) Young. They spent nearly 40 years together before her passing in 2016.

After spending nearly 50 years working as a health inspector covering a large percentage of the United States, Bill returned to his family’s ranch on the Jim Ned Creek in Coleman County. Bill and his son, Morris, built the family home and worked the ranch together for 35 years.

Bill is survived by his three sons, Rusty Cox and wife, Neva, of Willow Park, Morris Cox and wife, Carmen, of Coleman, Dwight Cox and wife, Robin, of Leander. Bill is also survived by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; one sister, Gwendolyn Smith of San Juan Capistrano, California; along with several nieces and cousin that he was close to.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Olivia and one sister, Marie Yeo.

The family extends their appreciation to Kindred Hospice and all their wonderful nurses, Dr. Fowler and to a very special friend, Betty Marshall, who helped provide more than just loving care to him. We will never forget all that was done for Bill out of love and caring.

At a later date, a private family memorial will be held on the ranch to celebrate Bill, Pat and Olivia’s life.

Condolences for the family may be left at www.livingmemorials.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
