Voss

Sue Beth Ragsdale passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, in Granbury, Texas. She was born in Eastland, Texas on November 18, 1939, to William Milton Day and Hazel Boen Day.

Sue graduated from Eastland High School in 1958 and soon after married the love of her life, Bennett Ragsdale, on December 27, 1958. In 1969, the couple moved to Brownwood, Texas, where Bennett began his teaching career at Howard Payne University. Sue, determined to further her education, returned to college and earned her degree from Howard Payne University in 1972. That same year, she joined Coggin Elementary School as a teacher, where she remained until 1981. While teaching, she pursued advanced studies, earning her Master of education degree from Tarleton State University along with certifications in mid-management, supervision, and superintendent administration.

Sue’s career flourished in education, leading her to the role of assistant principal at Coggin Elementary and later as principal at both Northwest Elementary and East Elementary. In 1993, she became Director of Special Programs for Brownwood Independent School District, where she continued to impact countless lives. Reflecting on her time in the classroom, Sue once said, “Teaching was my love, and I never had a down day in the classroom.” Her passion for education shaped generations of students, teachers, and administrators alike.

Following her retirement in 1997, Sue and Bennett moved to their ranch in Voss, Texas where they embraced country living, surrounded by family, friends, and the peace of rural life.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Doris Ann Harris and Irene Shaw; and her beloved husband, Bennett Ragsdale. She is survived by her daughter Sha Ragsdale Robinson and her husband Johnny Robinson of Granbury; grandsons, Samuel Robinson of Weatherford and Benjamin Robinson of Fort Worth; and her sister Sharon Richards and her husband Billy Richards of Corsicana.

She was a devoted member of Gouldbusk Baptist Church, and her faith, stubborn determination, and unwavering commitment to education will remain a legacy for all who knew her.
