Steven Hester

October 18, 1951 — April 8, 2024

Coleman

Steven Hester, usually called Steve or Steve-o, was born on October 18, 1951, in Lubbock, Texas, and died at his home in Coleman on April 8, 2024. As an infant, he journeyed with his beloved family to California, where he grew up and pursued his education. Graduating from Polytechnic High School in Arleta, California, he later attended junior college before embarking on a journey of service and care.

For many years, Steve dedicated his time and skills to the City of Hemet Valley, California, before transitioning to assist his mother as a caregiver in Coleman in the late 1990s. Following her passing in 2000, Steve extended his compassion further by joining Ronny Kading at Loss Creek Farm, contributing to the avian operation until 2006. Subsequently, he found purpose in serving as a funeral assistant at Stevens Funeral Home until his retirement in 2015. For his whole life, Steve was an animal lover and took great care of his animal friends. Although he lived most of his life in California, his roots were in Texas.

Steven was a long-time member of the Downtown Men's Sunday School Class, where he exemplified leadership and served as president for two terms. A faithful member of First Methodist Church, he wholeheartedly assisted in children's ministries and found solace in his two cherished passages from the Bible – Luke 15 and Matthew 18:10.

In celebration of his life, a service will be held at Stevens Funeral Home, where friends and family will gather to honor Steve’s legacy on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2:00 P.M., with Chaplain Mike Beets officiating.  Following the service, a reception will be hosted by the funeral home staff, at Miss Charlotte’s Place, 402 W. Liveoak, providing an opportunity to reminisce on moments shared and celebrate a life well-lived

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Jettye Hester and his older brother, Richard Hester.

Steve will be dearly missed by his surviving relatives, including his beloved sisters, Debi Williamson of Green Acres, Washington, and her family, and Shirlee Baker of Coleman, and her family, his late brother’s surviving family, as well as church friends and neighbors. In honoring Steven's memory, let us reflect on his unwavering commitment to service, his gentle spirit, and the profound impact he had on those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his legacy continue to inspire kindness and compassion in all who remember him.

Please leave kind thoughts and condolences for Steve’s family on his tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com.  Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hester family and to pay tribute to a cherished former staff member. Rest in peace, Steven Hester. Your light will forever shine bright in our hearts.
