RV Rodgers went to heaven in the early morning of October 26, 2020, where he will continue to never meet a stranger. RV and his wife of 78 years, Maedelle Rodgers, had recently moved to a retirement facility in Midland after a lifetime of farming and ranching in the Mozelle community.
RV, 97, was born in Coleman, Texas, on May 30, 1923, and is survived by his wife and inseparable companion, Maedelle Rodgers. Their two daughters are Mignon Braun, and her husband, Darrell, of Odessa, and Ginger Hardage, and her husband, Kelly, of Dallas. Other survivors include one granddaughter, Andrea Halloran, of Midland and great grandchildren Melony Nellums, Ian Halloran, and Maggie Halloran. Great-great grandchildren are Jaxx and Nova Nellums. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Harry and Sudie Rodgers, five brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Todd Armstrong.
RV grew up in Coleman County, specifically the Brown Ranch community and graduated from Mozelle High School. One of his first jobs was delivering Western Union telegrams on a bicycle in Dallas. RV and Maedelle were married in 1942 and that same year he enlisted in the US Army Air Forces instead of waiting to be drafted. As a B-17 gunnery instructor, World War II posts took the couple to Lincoln, Nebraska; Yuma, Arizona; Gulfport, Mississippi; and Harlingen, Texas. RV was later recognized with a “greatest generation” medallion at the Central Texas Veterans’ Memorial in Brownwood. After the war, they returned home to open a gas station in Santa Anna and touched many lives when owning Rodgers Grocery & Station in Mozelle from 1947 to 1964. At the same time, they started a large farming and ranching operation in the south end of Coleman County that continues to this day.
RV had a deep and abiding faith that he lived daily by example, and “Daddy RV” was honored to baptize all of his great grandchildren. His life is synonymous with the Mozelle community, and he loved the people of Coleman County. His quick smile and notorious sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met. He will be remembered most for his unwavering love for his high school sweetheart and inseparable life companion, Maedelle.
