Ruth Murray Warren

April 19, 1921 — February 24, 2017

Ruth Murray Warren, former long-term resident of San Angelo, died peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2017, at Sunrise Senior Living in Katy. Graveside service with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Leaday Cemetery near Lake Ivy in Leaday. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.

Ruth was born April 19, 1921, in Ballinger, to George and Dolores Murray. She graduated from Iraan High School in 1939, and later graduated from Scott and White School of Nursing in Temple, Texas as a Registered Nurse. Following graduation, she worked at Shannon Memorial Hospital in San Angelo before joining the Army Nurse Corps at Camp Polk, LA as a Second Lieutenant in 1944. Ruth married Robert Edward Warren in 1946 at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and after a number of moves related to military assignments, the family settled in San Angelo in 1957. In San Angelo, Ruth worked many years at the former Clinic Hospital, Goodfellow AFB Hospital, Shannon Memorial Hospital, and as a Doctor’s Assistant until she retired in 1974. After Robert passed in 1998, Ruth remained active in retired nurses social activities in San Angelo and participated in water aerobics until she was 92. She had two children, Alice Lee and Robert Jr.

Ruth was preceded in death by Alice Lee in 1952, and her husband Robert Edward Warren, who passed away in June of 1998.

She is survived by her son, Robert Jr. and his wife, Anne, four grandchildren, Allison Anderson, Brett Warren, Christa George and Lisa Warren, and four great grandchildren.

The family has requested that memorials in memory of Ruth be made to the Leaday Cemetery Association, c/o Shirley Rankin, 317 Trinity, Coleman, Texas 76834.
