Ruby Adena Brown

August 13, 1924 — March 26, 2018

Ruby Adena Brown, age 93, passed away March 26, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by loving family. A celebration of her life and inurnment will be held Friday, May 4, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Anna Cemetery with Karl Rose, her grandson-in-law, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman, Texas.

She was born Ruby Adena Brown on August 13, 1924 in rural Coleman County, near Santa Anna, Texas, a daughter of Jesse William Townsley and Iler McGuire Townsley. She married Lathan Arvel Brown in Santa Anna at the parsonage of the Methodist church on August 3, 1942, after hoeing cotton all morning. He was an Army private stationed at Camp Bowie in Brownwood when they met at a street dance in Santa Anna. Adena worked as a car hop at the Dixie Pig in Coleman in the 40’s, did waitress work many years in Lubbock, and worked at Uniroyal Tires in Los Angeles for 13 years before retiring in 1986. She enjoyed playing dominoes and quilting, working fast as if she might be paid by the blocks she finished when she sewed. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors are her children, Ruby Miller (Steve) of Lubbock, Larry Brown (Debbie) of Garland, Pamela Wallace (Cliff) of Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren, Ned Brown, Sunny Wilber, Kelli Ramazini, Shana Rose, Christopher Ballew, Catherine Lugo; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Gannaway of Lubbock, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Virgil Townsley, Opal Watson, Ilene Prince, Wilburn Townsley, Jessie Lee Stevenson.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer, Inc.
