R. K. Leatherman

R. K. Leatherman, Sr., 79, of Fisk, died Monday, May 20, 2013 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Brown Ranch Cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

R. K. Leatherman, Sr. was born April 6, 1934 in Weatherford, a son of John Henry Leatherman and Sara Lelah Lettie Bennett Leatherman. He grew up in Houston and attended school at Veribest. He married Gene LaVerne Heaton on April 8, 1955 in Houston. She preceded him in death on November 13, 1982. He was owner/operator of R&R Transportation. He moved to Coleman County in 1979.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Leatherman, Jr. and wife, Diana, of Coleman, Randal Leatherman, Sr. of Coleman; one daughter, Robin LaVerne Sims and husband, Eddie, of Coleman; step-daughter, Susie Rutan of Houston; step-son, Raymond Mitchell, II, of Coleman; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his caregiver, Francis Linscomb.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Rodney Leatherman, Sr., six sisters and five brothers.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 at Stevens Funeral Home.
