Pablo H. Dela Rosa

Pablo H. (Paul) Dela Rosa, age 84, of San Angelo, died Friday, June 21, 2013 in San Angelo. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 25 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Romanus Akamike officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Paul was born October 12, 1928 in Santa Anna, Texas, a son of the late Jesus Dela Rosa and Margarita Holguin Dela Rosa. He grew up in Coleman. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On October 6, 1951 he married Julia Alcala in Coleman and she preceded him in death on April 14, 1995.

Paul lived in Coleman before moving to Abilene and then later to San Angelo in 1983. While living in Coleman he worked at the 7 Up Bottling Plant where he was a mixer. In Abilene he worked as a line foreman for Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He also worked as a construction supervisor for Abilene Bridge Company. After moving to San Angelo, he became head of maintenence for Angelo State University and retired from that position.

Paul was well known for his homemade and gourmet tamales that were sent all over the world, including 30 to 40 dozen that were sent to The White House every few months. Baseball was his passion and he played the game until he was 42 years old in the Sunday League for Ballinger and Coleman. He was a sports fanatic, a good pool player, played the trumpet and was an excellent dancer.

Paul loved God and prayed for his family daily. He was a sweet and wonderful father who was always smiling. He will be greatly missed by his family.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in San Angelo and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coleman.

Survivors include his seven children, John Dela Rosa and wife Patsy of Brown County, Kathy Tate and husband Geoff of Copperas Cove, Paula Jennings and husband Rick of Valera, Frances Hannan of San Angelo, Joey Dela Rosa and wife Norma of San Angelo, Anette Lee and husband Robert of San Angelo and Paul J. Dela Rosa and whife Noemi of San Angelo; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way; seven sisters and brothers, Anita Diaz of Coleman, Sally Calderon of Coleman, Sammy Dela Rosa of Coleman, Jesse Dela Rosa of Coleman, Lillie Gonzales of Coleman, Becky Utley of Benbrook and Louis Dela Rosa of Krum.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Gonzales.

Rosary service will be held Monday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan, Coleman, Texas.
