Nicky L. Simonton, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Fisk, Texas, on Friday, June 6, 2025, surrounded by his family. Nicky, born on July 6, 1944, in Fisk, Texas, was a gentleman known for his quiet demeanor and loving spirit.
Nicky's early life began in Coleman County, where he graduated from Mozelle High School in 1962. A proud Texan through and through, he embarked on a career initially ginning cotton and thereafter working in the oil fields, dedicating many years to this demanding profession. However, it was tending the land as a devoted farmer and rancher that Nicky truly found peace and solace. He took great pride in this lifestyle, often accompanied by cherished moments shared with his family, including relaxing evenings on the front porch enjoying a cold beer.
In addition to his commitment to work, Nicky devoted himself to serving others. He served proudly in the National Guard for two years, an experience that enriched his character and sense of duty. Together with his late wife, Donna, he was actively involved in volunteering at Brown Ranch Cemetery and was a member of the Gouldbusk Methodist Church, reflecting his unwavering dedication to his community.
Nicky was known for his love of fishing, farming, and occasional trips to Shreveport for gambling, activities that brought him joy throughout his life. He cherished spending time with his family, creating lasting memories with them and finding joy in their company.
He is survived by his children, George Landon Simonton, Carrie Stewardson and husband Tyler, Corlena Simonton, and Stacey Galbreath. Nicky adored his grandchildren: Brook Galbreath, Kaitlyn Simonton, Austin Simonton, Kylie Salazar, Bella Salazar, Samantha Stewardson, Wesley Stewardson, Tripp Stewardson, Simon Guijosa, Tyler Guijosa, and Rylee Simonton-Schramm, and he also leaves behind one great-grandchild, Aveigh Galbreath. In addition, he is remembered fondly by his two sisters, Debbye Proctor and husband Bill and Fredye Utley and husband John.
