Moyra Glaister Chisholm, nee Boyd, passed away on October 23, 2025, after a long battle with dementia. She was a beloved wife to Henry, and mother to Kenneth, Stewart, and Andrew. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in Brownwood, surrounded by family and caretakers.
Moyra was born on November 11, 1934, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to John and Janet (Nettie) Boyd. After spending her childhood in Canada, she met Henry Norwell Chisholm in Montréal, in 1955. They fell in love soon after and moved to Scotland where they wed on August 2, 1955. They were married at the church in Moneydie where her father-in-law was presiding reverend. They would spend the next 14 years in Scotland, welcoming Kenneth and Stewart into their family while Henry led several church parishes as minister.
In 1971, Moyra moved with her family to the town of Freeport in the Bahamas, and soon after celebrated the birth of their third son Andrew. Fate then saw the family moving to a new beach in Lubbock, Texas in 1973. From then on, Moyra spent the majority of her remaining years in Texas, living in Brownwood, Ballinger, Borger, Clyde, Abilene, Llano, with a bonus year of retirement in Whitlash, Montana.
Moyra was a doting wife, mother and a talented musician – playing the piano and/or leading the choir at every church where Henry led. She was also a lifelong learner, completing her teaching degree at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX in 1983, where she spent the next ten years teaching English at the Brownwood State School. After which she studied to become a licensed chemical dependency counselor where she practiced at Serenity House in Abilene, TX for six years.
Moyra was delighted in opportunities to see the world and was well-traveled, relishing in times spent vacationing throughout most of the United States, Canada, and parts of Mexico, Central America, South America, Russia, and Europe. With a clever sense of humor, she was known for her great laugh and warm smile and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Moyra’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life and not the sadness of her passing.
She is survived by her eldest son, Kenneth and his husband, Jeff; youngest son, Andrew and wife, Dee Ann, grandson, Cameron and wife Courtney, and great-grandchildren, Henry and Charles (due in February), along with her beloved dog, Dancer. She was preceded in death by husband, Rev. Dr. Henry Chisholm, and son, Stewart Chisholm; parents, John and Nettie Boyd; and siblings, John, Kenneth, and Agnes (Aggie).
The family wishes to give special thanks to her devoted caretakers, Tracy, Carmon, and Miranda, along with all of the aides, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and doctors with Solaris Hospice for their support over the last 3.5 years.
A private graveside ceremony for immediate family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Moyra’s name to the Boys and Girls Club of Brown County or your favorite charity.
Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
