Mitchell Dean Guthrie

August 31, 1975 — February 20, 2021

Santa Anna

The hoax disease that we were not going to hear about any more after November 3, 2020, just took our youngest son from this world on February 20, 2021.

Mitchell Dean Guthrie lost a valiant battle against COVID-19 and its aftereffects after fifty-three days in ICU and twenty-five days in rehab hospital and surgical hospital in Ft. Worth.  He survived numerous ups and downs, but eventually lost the battle to a combination of forces of Covid Lung and pneumonia.  Medical personnel in all three facilities went above and beyond the call of duty in trying to return him to health.  No one could ask for more.

Mitchell was born August 31, 1975, in Brownwood Hospital, to Montie and Sandra Guthrie.  Mitchell always marched to a different beat, even when he was the lead drummer for the SAHS band.  His two brothers attended Tarleton State, but Mitch took the long route to Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches.  Mitch left SFA to enter the world of computing in 1997.  He ran a computer guiding horizontal drilling rigs in Odessa, ran the IT department at the Education Service Center in San Angelo, then moved to the metroplex where he worked in System Administration for several companies.  His most recent position was as Network Administrator for international corporation Aon International.  He loved what he did, and he was very good at it.

Mitchell is survived by his parents, Montie and Sandra and two brothers, Montie IV (Sonny), and Rhett and his wife Laurel.  Three nieces and nephews survive: Marin, Ariel, and Beckett.  Mitch was loved by a large extended family, including two uncles, Dale Hicks and Lane and Sharon Guthrie, numerous cousins, and Stanley and Judy Hartman.   He is also survived by friends across the country: Shawn Kerr, Jared Thomas, Gene and Devon Thornton, and Bobby Malaer were among his closest friends.

A memorial service celebrating Mitchell’s life will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.  The family will greet friends after the memorial service.  The memorial service will be live streamed and available to view for up to 90 days.  Go to www.livingmemorials.com and select the obituary page for Mitchell.  The live stream will be located at the bottom of his obituary page. Face coverings are mandatory to attend the memorial service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mitchell’s name to the Santa Anna Foundation at Santa Anna National Bank.

Remembrances, condolences, and messages of comfort can be expressed to the family at www.livingmemorials.com.  Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Guthrie family.
