Michael Sloan

October 15, 1952 — June 23, 2023

Lorena

Michael David Sloan passed away peacefully in his home and surrounded by loved ones on June 23, 2023.

Mike was born in Austin, Texas on October 15, 1952, to Robert Bryan Sloan Sr. and Maggie Simonton Sloan. Mike grew up in Abilene, Texas and graduated from Cooper High School in 1971. His family were faithful members of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.

Mike was proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his spouse, Kim Sloan, and his two children: daughter Maggie Middlebrooks and her husband Phillip of Lorena, Texas, and son Michael Sloan Jr. and his wife Erin of Waco, Texas. Mike is also survived by his sister Patricia Wynne and her family of Richmond, Texas and his brother Robert Sloan and his family of Houston, Texas. Mike carries with him the love of 6 grandchildren: Cole Thomas, Alathea, Sloan, Weston Michael, Charli, and Memory; his beloved nieces and nephews, as well as a large, loving, extended family. One should also note that Mike was warmly welcomed by Kim’s parents, children, and grandchildren. Mike adored them all.

Mike was a devout Christian. His motto was “Faith, Family, and Friends” in that order. He was a ridiculously-in-love, romantic husband to his Kimmy, a loyal, loving father, and a gracious, dedicated leader to his large, tightly knit family.

Mike was known for his quick wit, sense of humor and generosity. He was the guy that would show up and get done whatever was needed. He was the first to show up, and the last to leave, after helping everyone else out to their own cars. He was the guy that could do anything, because if he didn’t know how, he sure would figure it out quickly and get to work. He taught those around him that with hard work, a little blood, sweat, and tears (and cold Shiner), consistency and integrity, anything was possible. When you stepped through his front door (or garage), you became family. He was always down for a good time and would make sure everyone else had one too. He always called, always made the trip, always answered that dang phone, and always picked up the tab. If you met Mike Sloan, you loved him.

Mike’s entrepreneurial spirit led him on many varied ventures. Mike was known for his meticulous work. He was a pool player deluxe and owned businesses surrounding this passion. Mike and his lifelong friend, Bill Tyson, blazed the trail in creating what the world now knows as paintless dent repair. In the early years they promoted their innovative methods, trained technicians and gained recognition as well as approval from insurance companies and worldwide auto manufacturers including Mercedes Benz and Audi. Training and repairs included work in the United States, Canada, Europe and Korea. This is why Mike Sloan will always be known as “The Grandfather of Dent Repair”.

He will be greatly missed. There will be about 578 displaced and hungry birds, so everyone please go buy a new feeder to pick up the slack. Comanche County will need someone new to step in during watermelon/cantaloupe season, and let’s not forget: we’ll need a new Bellville Meat Market runner. Some of us (Maggie), will finally have to find a mechanic, HVAC guy, repair man, roadside assistance, and home improvement instructor. We had 18 years, 7 months, and 3 bonus days with our Tinman, (but who’s counting?) Thanks and blessings always to our Lord and Savior and to the Smith family. We will never forget your gift of life in the midst of your grief.

The family will host funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Lorena, 307 East Center Street, Lorena, Texas. A private family graveside service will take place at Brown Ranch Cemetery on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 11:00 am. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
