Mary Lou Hillock, born Mary Lou Scherruble, passed away on October 16, 2026, in Coleman. She was born on July 6, 1945, in Big Spring to Eugene Monard and Maxine Scherruble Preston and lived a life marked by devotion to her family and by the simple joys that brought her happiness through the years.

She attended school in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School. Later, she continued her education in medical records coding, reflecting her willingness to keep learning and to build on her knowledge. On July 28, 1978, she married Steven Hillock in Tulia, beginning a marriage that would remain a central part of her life. In 2011, she moved to Coleman after living on a ranch in Talpa, where her husband, Steven, served as a ranch foreman.

Mary Lou also found enjoyment in life’s lighter moments. She loved playing hand-held electronic games and happily carried that interest forward when smart phones came along, embracing that familiar pastime in a new way.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Hillock; her daughters, Sherie O'Brien and Terri Hillock; and her sons, Kevin Welch and Mitchell Hillock. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. These family ties were an important part of her life and remain a lasting part of her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Preston and Maxine Preston.

Mary Lou Hillock will be remembered with love by those who knew her and by the family who shared in her life. Her memory will continue to be cherished by all who hold her close in their hearts.
