Mary Jo Moore

January 17, 1932 — August 19, 2025

Coleman

Mrs. Mary Jo Luxton “Granny” Moore, 93, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, in Coleman, Texas. Born on January 17, 1932, in Fort Stockton, Texas, Mary Jo lived a vibrant and full life surrounded by the love of family and friends.

She was the daughter of Annie Dee Luxton, who passed away during Mary Jo’s childhood. From those early challenges emerged a woman known for her strength, warmth, and generous heart—qualities that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband Louis Carlton Moore; her son James Edward Smith; and her great-granddaughter Izabella Bleu Rodriguez. Their memories remained treasured throughout her life.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Juanita Pounds and son-in-law Charles Pete Pounds; stepdaughter Teresa Moore; and stepson Leonard Moore. She was a devoted grandmother to Keianne Pounds, Ruby Martin, Christopher Pounds, Charlsa Page, Erin Price, Regan Williamson, Robbie Moon, Leslie Poeske, Keith Grey, James Bridger Smith, Julia Page, Carrie Baird, and Caleb Pounds. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren radiated through every moment she shared with them.

Known affectionately as “Granny,” Mary Jo had a gift for bringing people together—especially around the dinner table with meals made from the heart. She enjoyed crocheting and never missed a chance to play dominoes with a competitive spark. A proud Dallas Cowboys fan, she especially delighted in teasing Pete after each win. Her passions also included horses, music, and sweet tea—favorites that colored her days with joy. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Coleman Home Health and Hospice for their compassionate care—especially nurse April and Dr. Atwood—and to dear friends Maria, Minnie, Margaret, Joe, Alice, and Cecelia for their enduring companionship. May the memory of Mary Jo bring comfort and joy to all who were fortunate to know her.

Arrangements and cremation are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
