Mary Dell Anderson, a cherished member of the Coleman community and a devoted healthcare professional, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2026, in her hometown of Coleman, Texas. Born on January 3, 1945, in Coleman, Mary lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and service to others.
A proud graduate of Coleman High School, Mary embarked on a meaningful career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1965. She began her nursing journey at Overall Morris Hospital, which later became the Coleman County Medical Center. For many years, Mary and her sister, Ora Jane, were familiar and comforting presences within the hospital and throughout the local community. Mary’s commitment to her patients was evident as she lovingly cared for them with great expertise and kindness. Beyond her nursing duties, Mary extended her compassion by serving as an ambulance driver and EMT for Walker Funeral Home, further demonstrating her unwavering devotion to aiding those in need.
Mary’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a devoted member of North Coleman Baptist Church, she was deeply involved in her church family and found joy in participating in services and community outreach. Mary’s leadership as the Vacation Bible School director for many years enriched the lives of numerous children and families, leaving a lasting impact on the church community.
Those who knew Mary will remember her big heart and loving personality. She cherished her family and friends, offering support and affection generously. Mary’s warmth and tenderness touched countless lives, creating a legacy of kindness and grace.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Matt and Mattie Linch Anderson; her brother, Matt Anderson, and his wife Deana; her sister, Ora Jane Anderson; and her adopted sister, Janet Horton. She is survived by her niece, Serena Jenkins and husband Brian; her nephews, Chipper Anderson and wife Paula, and Billy Wade Anderson and wife Lisa; along with many great nieces and nephews, who carry forward her spirit and memory.
Mary Dell Anderson’s life was a testament to the power of care, faith, and love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her contributions to her community and church will be fondly remembered for years to come.
A graveside service honoring Mary will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Jeff Dean, pastor at North Coleman Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
