Martin Cantu

February 8, 1938 — June 12, 2017

Martin Cantu, 79, of Coleman, died Monday, June 12, 2017 at his residence. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman with Rev. Eddy R. Hayes, officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Martin Cantu was born February 8, 1938 in Moulton to Jessie and Ramona Rodriguez Cantu. He grew up in Moulton and Gonzales. On March 2, 1986, he married Candida Cruz in Coleman. She preceded him in death on February 4, 1991. He later married Sandra Lewis on November 13, 1992. She preceded him in death on February 27, 2005. Martin worked for Dal-Tile and also worked in the housekeeping department at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Brownwood.

Survivors include his children, Ramona Flores and husband, Richard, of Talpa, Jessie Cantu and wife, Tonya, of Coleman, Victoria Evans of Brownwood, Rudy Cantu of Garland, Connie Cantu and husband, Edwin Rodriguez, John Contreras and wife, Ana, of Dallas, Rochelle Burns of Coleman; grandchildren, Rachel Johnson and husband, Joseph, Jessica Cantu and husband, Sam Leek, Richard Flores, Jr., Jessie Cantu, Jr., Michael Cantu, Kaley Cantu, Alex Salazar and Thomas Rayito Cisneroz. Also surviving, are 11 great grandchildren, Donald White, Ryan White, Sierra White, Mackenzie Leek, Mason Leek, Cason Cantu, Brooklynn Cantu, Kylie Cantu, Pricilla Contreras, Angel Salinas and Oscar Perez.

Besides his parents, Martin was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Cantu.

There will be a family visitation on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.
