Martha Madeline Drake, lovingly known as Martha, passed away peacefully after a life filled with creativity, compassion, adventure, and joy. She was born on June 3, 1942, in Coleman, Texas, to Edward Pitts and Madeline Pitts.

From an early age, Martha demonstrated a heart for service and a zest for life that would define her journey. After graduating from Coleman High School where she was Drum Major and Majorette, she pursued higher education at Hendrick Hospital where she earned her Accredited Records Technician certificate and later trained in dental hygiene at El Centro College. She went on to earn her Registered Nursing credentials from Texas Woman’s University.

Martha’s professional life reflected her diverse interests and deep care for others. She worked as a dental assistant, real estate agent, and registered nurse, including time in a ventilator ward where she provided critical care to patients. She also dedicated herself to home health, senior care, and served as a school nurse, impacting countless lives. Later in her career, she earned her paralegal certificate, where she collaborated with physicians and attorneys to support medical malpractice cases—bringing both her medical knowledge and attention to detail to this important work.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Martha truly embraced life. She had a passion for art, creating beautiful pieces in acrylics and watercolors. In retirement, she joined the Midwest Texas Artist Guild, where her artwork was proudly displayed and sold in businesses across West Texas.

She was an adventurer at heart. Alongside her close friends—affectionately known as the “Culture Club”—Martha traveled the world, walking along the Great Wall of China, exploring the Louvre, riding the Orient Express, gliding through Venice in gondolas, and hiking waterfalls in Hawaii. Her love for culture and experience was unmatched.

Family was at the center of everything she did. Known as the “fun aunt,” she brought laughter and energy into every gathering. Her Christmas gifts were legendary—often sparking playful chaos and unforgettable memories. She had a gift for making people feel joy.

Martha married Robert Gerald Jones, with whom she had children, and later married Harold Douglas Drake. She is survived by her sons Bobby Jones and Paul Jones; stepchildren Shelly Martin and Trina Jackson; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was deeply rooted in her faith, growing up in the Baptist Church and later attending Denton Bible Church. Even after she could no longer attend in person, she remained connected through online services.

Martha also had a deep love for plants, joyfully sharing them with others. Her home—and the homes of those she loved—were filled with life and greenery, a reflection of her nurturing spirit.

In her later years, after being diagnosed with myositis, she lived with her son Bobby and daughter-in-law Carolyn, who provided loving care and support.

A service honoring her life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2026 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman. She will be buried on the family lot at the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Martha leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, creativity, and joy. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
