Margie Duncan, born December 27, 1924, in Santa Anna, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, in Coleman, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. She lived a remarkable and full life spanning 101 years, marked by grace, strength, dedication, and a warm, loving spirit that touched the lives of many.

Margie was one of ten children, with five sisters and four brothers. Growing up in Santa Anna, she attended school there and graduated in 1941. She married Wehlan Duncan on September 26, 1941, and they were married for 43 years before his death on November 14, 1984. Although Margie herself did not serve in the military, her husband proudly served in the Army Air Corps. Throughout his service, the couple moved several times, adapting gracefully to changes and challenges.

In 1946, following her husband's discharge from the military, Margie and Wehlan both enrolled in and graduated from Isabel’s School of Cosmetology in Fort Worth. Upon graduation they returned to Coleman in 1948 and opened their first salon upstairs above Earle Smith’s Jewelry. Their parents said, “Women aren’t going to climb those stairs just to get their hair done.” Oh, but they did! Due to their warm, loving service their business grew and, running their salon in the day and working together at night, they built Margie’s Beauty Salon on West Pecan Street across from the old Coleman High School. They owned and operated the salon with passion and dedication together until Wehlan’s passing in 1984. Upon seeing one of their customers hug Margie and say they loved her, one of their operators asked “Margie, why do they do that?” Margie responded, “because I love them.” Wehlan used to say, “A monkey can do hair, you have to make them feel beautiful”, and they did! Margie continued to operate the salon until her retirement in October 2007. She deeply enjoyed her profession, always giving her all to make her clients feel loved and look and feel beautiful.

Those who knew Margie cherished her loving demeanor and heartfelt genuine smile. She loved cooking for and feeding her family and all the kids and grandkids loved her food and thought she was the “best cooker ever!” They all loved cooking with her. and she taught many of them how to cook... and live. She was a beacon of warmth and kindness to family and friends. She was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church and continued her membership when the Presbyterian and Christian churches joined together to form the United Christian and Presbyterian Church.

Margie is mourned by her beloved family, including her sons Robert Gray Duncan and his wife Diana, and Terry Joe Duncan and his wife Beth. She is also survived by her sisters Edna Ruth Skinner, Wanda Franklin, Dixie Griffin, and Lois Ferrell. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren—Shawn, Angela, Christina, Wesley, Maggie, Mariann, Mason, Lisa, Michael, Nikki, —and an extended family of great-grandchildren: Curtis, Mattea, Alex, Ander, Brook, Tessa, Carrie, Cadence, JT, Benjamin, Josiah, Lily, Keeli, Wehlan, Guinevere, Carter and Vinny and great-great grandchildren, Aleister, Alaina, Addalynn, Brailynn, Sonny and CC.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, and one sister.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Stevens Funeral Home, located at 400 W Pecan Street in Coleman, Texas. The funeral service will follow on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the same location.

Margie Duncan’s life was one of enduring love and service to others, characterized by her generosity and joyful spirit. She leaves behind a cherished memory for all who knew her, a testament to a life well-lived and a heart deeply loved.
