Mack Hambright, a cherished member of the Coleman community, passed away on September 20, 2024, at his home in Coleman, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 4, 1931, in Coleman County, Texas to William Elton Hambright and Ruth Johnson Hambright.
Mack led a fulfilling life, characterized by his dedication to both family and career. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1950 and later embarked on a rewarding career with the Rural Electrification Administration (REA), where he worked diligently for 36 years. His commitment to service was evident as he also served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, exemplifying his dedication to his country.
A man of many interests, Mack found great joy in sports, particularly playing basketball during his high school years for the state-bound Coleman Basketball team during the 1948-1949 school year. He held a deep appreciation for fishing, dancing, and following his favorite teams, the Coleman Bluecats, and the Dallas Cowboys. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved immensely, always cheering them on and supporting them wholeheartedly.
On April 20, 1950, Mack married Patsy Faye Bryan in Rockwood, Texas. Their marriage of 67 years was filled with love, dedication, and the joys of raising a family together. Mack and Patsy created a nurturing environment for their children and cherished the role of grandparents, doting on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mack is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy Hambright; their children, Kathy Vaughan and husband Lance of Argyle, Mark Hambright and wife Viki of Coleman, Jan Todd of Coleman, and Jill Watson and husband Michael of San Angelo; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Tiphani Hambright, Tedye Hambright and significant other Rachel Cox, Trent Hambright and fiancé Sage Richardson, Jeremy Vaughan, Travis Vaughan, Tanner Vaughn, Curtis Yates and wife Shi, Crystal Hasty and husband Darin, and Michael Watson. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Lance Jaxon, Aiden, Kynnley, Chase, Maci, and Emma.
Mack is preceded in death by his parents, William Elton Hambright and Ruth Johnson Hambright; one sister, Jo Ann Allen; and one grandson, Jeffery Vaughan.
A visitation will be held in Mack's honor on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Officiating will be Dr. Chas Shira and Richard Hetzel.
Mack Hambright will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his contributions to his community, and the joyful spirit he brought into the lives of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of commitment and love that will forever be treasured by those fortunate enough to have shared their lives with him.
