Lyndon Key, age 84, of Novice, died Thursday, May 4, 2017, at the Oaks of Radford Hills in Abilene. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7, in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Bob Martin, minister of Elm Street Church of Christ, will lead the singing and assist with the service. Eulogies and remembrances will be given by family members Vicki Key, Dennis Bowerman and Chase Key. Burial will follow in the Rough Creek Cemetery, near Novice, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.
Lyndon Key was born July 21, 1932 in Hamby, Shackelford County, Texas, a son of Alonzo Elbert Key and Gladys Mae Ray Key. He grew up in Hamby, attending school at Rock Hill, then graduating from Abilene High School in 1948. He graduated from Ranger Junior College with an Associate’s Degree. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea for two years and received an Honorable Discharge. On September 16, 1955, he married Sue Jackson in Abilene. Following their marriage, they lived in Abilene for several years and Clyde for 29 years before moving to their home in Novice, Coleman County, in 1988. Lyndon worked for West Texas Utilities for 38 years, starting as a meter reader. He later became credit manager and an investigator for WTU. He was a member and Elder at both Clyde Church of Christ and Elm Street Church of Christ in Coleman, for a total of 29 years. He was also a director for Farm Bureau for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Key of Novice; two children, Lynn Bowerman and husband Dennis of Abilene, Charles Lyndon Key and wife Vicki of San Saba; four grandchildren, Clay Broyles, Kayla Bird and husband Mark, Whitney Key and fianceé Miguel Flores, and Chase Key; one great-grandchild, Branten Bird; four siblings, Bobby Ray Key of Miami, Oklahoma, Ebb Maxey of Abilene, Jane Hancock and husband Bob of Abilene, Jimmy Key and wife Ruth Ann of Dallas.
