Loyd Hopper, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman, Texas. He was 86 years old. Loyd’s life was marked by quiet strength, steadfast faith, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Born on January 26, 1940, in Coleman, Texas, Loyd remained close to his roots throughout his life. On January 27, 1961, he married Edwina Marie Horne in Valera, thus beginning a devoted partnership and building the family that would become Loyd’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.

Loyd is survived by his cherished wife of 65 years, Edwina Hopper; two daughters, Jackie Talley and husband Robert and Allena Yates; grandchildren Susan Beeman and husband Ted, Bob Talley and wife Tara, Lynnette Liska and husband Jordan, and Kristen Hopper; and great-grandchildren Katie Boen, Allyson Boen, Alicia Talley, Olen Talley, Ivan Talley, Shepherd Talley, and August Liska. His enduring love for his family was apparent to all who knew him, and he treasured every moment he spent with them.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Oly Boston Hopper and Gladys Viola Cox Hopper; his daughter, Dorlah Kay Hopper; his son, James Pernell Hopper; brothers James Phillip Hopper, J.D. Hopper, R.W. Hopper, and Ira Lynn Hopper; and sisters Lavada Evans, Mattie Marie Hopper, Addie Lee Hinds, and Norma Grace Loyd. Their memories remain cherished in the hearts of all who were touched by Loyd’s presence and kindness.

A man of quiet and loving character, Loyd’s personality was gentle and constant. He gave to others through his quiet wisdom, loyalty, and heartfelt care. Loyd’s connection to the land was deep—he was a lifelong farmer and rancher who found peace and fulfillment outdoors. Loyd also dedicated many years to working for the cable company, where reliability and hard work earned him respect among colleagues and customers alike.

Loyd was pastor at Talpa Emmanuel Baptist Church and a longtime member and deacon at Valera Baptist Church where he raised his children. His legacy of service extended further into the community, where he was a committed member of the Kiwanis Club and volunteered his time as a coach for the Coleman County 4-H rifle team—a role that brought him great joy and the opportunity to positively influence young people in his community.

Whether hunting, fishing, tending his land, or joining family celebrations, Loyd approached life with gratitude and humility. Those who knew him will remember his unwavering integrity, his gentle humor, and his deep and abiding love for his family.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W Pecan St, Coleman, Texas. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery.

Loyd Hopper’s legacy is one of service, devotion, and quiet strength. He will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
