LaVerne Stark

Alta LaVerne Stark, 90, of Coleman, died Monday, April 15, 2019 at Focused Care of Sherman.  There will be a visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2019 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.  Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2019 at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion, with Dr. Chas Shira officiating.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Alta LaVerne Smith on August 14, 1928 in Burkett to Oliver Wendell (O.W.) Smith and Iva Irene Younglove Smith.  She grew up in Burkett and attended school at Echo.  She graduated from Burkett High School.  On July 25, 1948, she married John Rex Stark in Coleman.  LaVerne worked as a care giver and sitting with people that needed extra help, a job she truly enjoyed.  She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Lydia Sunday School Class and First Baptist Church.  She moved to Sherman to be closer to family in recent years.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Marie Stark of Sherman; three grandchildren, Horace Shane Kenney of Houston, Leigh Ann Kenney of Sherman, Cameron Lee Kenney of Sherman; two great grandchildren, Shalyn Marie Kenney of Sherman, Everly Wyatt Kenney of Sherman and one great-great grandchild, Maison Alexander Cappio of Sherman.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Stark on February 9, 1998 and seven brothers and sisters.
