June Laverne Thompson

August 21, 1935 — May 9, 2024

Coleman

June Laverne Thompson, a cherished member of the Coleman community, passed away peacefully at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman, Texas on Thursday, May 9, 2024. June was born on August 21, 1935, in Santa Anna, Texas, to her loving parents R.D. "Dee" Mankins and Jessie Mae Estes Mankins.

June's life was filled with love, dedication and service to others. She worked as a beloved bus driver for the Coleman Independent School District, where she drove the Burkett route with care and kindness. Her students adored her, and her personality made every ride a pleasant experience for them.

Aside from her career as a bus driver, June was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Her family meant everything to her, and she took great pride in caring for them. June's nurturing and loving nature extended beyond her family as she was known to be a role model for many in the Coleman community.

One of June's proudest accomplishments was being an active member of Elm Street Church of Christ. She dedicated many years to teaching Tuesday School, where she shared her passion for reading the Bible and attending church with others.

June had a zest for life and enjoyed simple pleasures like spending time with children, cooking delicious meals, tending to her garden, savoring root beer floats, and watching Wheel of Fortune with loved ones.

June is preceded in death by her parents R.D. "Dee" Mankins and Jessie Mae Estes Mankins, her husband Leonard Wayne Thompson, one brother Gaylon Mankins, and one great-grandchild Branson Faubion. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

June is survived by her two sons Mike Thompson of Coleman and Terry Thompson and wife Jennifer of Goldthwaite, three grandchildren Hailey Faubion and husband Brandon, Quinton Thompson and wife Haley, Walt Thompson; two great-grandchildren Brock Faubion and Braxton Faubion; as well as one sister Shirley Gardner; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she helped raise and mold into fine adults.

June will be dearly missed by all who knew her but will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life. May she rest in peace knowing she made a difference in the lives of many.

A memorial gathering celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Hailey officiating.  Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
