John Sprinkles

John Sprinkles, age 89, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus, on January 19, 2024, in Coleman. It was John’s request that no funeral service be held.  A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

John graduated from Novice High School and joined the United States Air Force as an air policeman, serving in France. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he went to work for Southwestern Public Service in Amarillo, as a journeyman electrician. During this time, he was introduced to the love of his life, Carolyn Close Smith, by his cousins, Tubby and Nancy Grimes. John and Carolyn married on April 22, 1967, and have celebrated 56 years of marriage.

John retired after thirteen years from Coleman ISD as Maintenance Supervisor. After his retirement, John and Carolyn started workamping for eighteen years, living in their RV, working and meeting new friends. They worked at Meteor Crater, Arizona, Fun Valley, Colorado, Pine Mountain, Georgia, Destin, Florida, Hershey, Pennsylvania, Fredericksburg, Texas, and lastly as the first park hosts for 5 ½ years, at the brand-new Wheeler Branch Reservoir, Glen Rose, Texas.

John and Carolyn moved back to Coleman in 2016. John was a member of First Baptist Church in Coleman.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Emily Sprinkles; three brothers, Gene, Donald and Charles, and two sisters, Martha Harllee and Lillie Gipson. 

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sprinkles;  one son, Jim and wife Lisa Sprinkles; one granddaughter, Jaime and husband Zacharie Ott and one grandson, Kevin Sprinkles.

The family would like to thank Dr. Darron Atwood, all of the awesome, compassionate nurses at Coleman County Medical Center, the staff at Holiday Hill Nursing Home, Coleman Home Health and Hospice, Hill Country Home Care, and especially Angie, who personally cared for John’s needs.

The family requests that any memorials be donated to the donor’s favorite charity.
