John Dockery

John Dockery, a remarkable man who touched the hearts of many with his kindness and generosity, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, at Pecan Bayou Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Brownwood. 
 
John was born on October 7, 1942, in Coleman, Texas. Throughout his life, he wore many hats, excelling in each role he took on. He was not only the proud owner and operator of Dockery Trucking Company since 1962 but also found joy as a farmer and rancher, cultivating wheat and raising cattle for many years.
 
In 1971, John found love with Vera Earlene Johnson when they joined together in marriage. Their union was one filled with love and companionship, creating countless cherished memories that will forever be treasured. This union also included Vera’s two children, Rodney Guthrie and Tanya Childers.
 
An individual who valued education, John attended school at Crossroads and Santa Anna, where he laid the foundation for his future success. He was known for his loving nature and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His impact on those around him was profound and lasting.
 
Among his proudest accomplishments were his devotion to his wife, his son, trucking company, and the land he called home. These aspects of his life brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Raymond Dockery and Oma Lee Martin Dockery, as well as his beloved wife Vera Earlene Johnson Dockery.
 
John is survived by his loving son, Wes Dockery and wife Marlana of Rockwood. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Ray "Tinker" Dockery and wife Barbara of Paint Rock. John's nieces and nephews, Lynn Dillard and husband Jason; Dan Dockery and wife Jodie; Traci Odom and husband Matt; Kelli McDonald and husband Ryan, also mourn his passing while cherishing the love he shared with them.
 
As we come together to celebrate the life of John Dockery, let us hold onto the memories of a man whose kindness knew no bounds. May his spirit live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared with all.

The family will host a visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman. Family and friends are invited to a graveside funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in the Trickham Cemetery with Tony Abernathy officiating. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
