Jimmie Calvin Driskill

Jimmie C. Driskill, age 87, of Coleman, died Thursday, March 19, 2020 at his residence.

Due to the current status of the COVID-19, a private family graveside will be held at the Coleman City Cemetery.  A memorial service celebrating his life will be announced at a later date.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.

He was born Jimmie Calvin Driskill on January 15, 1933 in Coleman to Herman Franklin Driskill and Agnes Clara Welch Driskill.  He grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1951.  Jimmie married his childhood sweetheart, Dellene Meador, on July 3, 1951 in Coleman.  He worked at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store and then managed Dennis Gaines Grocery.  Jimmie then worked for Coleman County Electric Co-Op where he was the warehouse manager for the purchasing and collection department.  He retired after 42 years of service from the Coleman County Electric Cooperative.   Jimmie was very active in the lives of his children and the community of Coleman.  He was a leader for the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Little League manager, PTA, president of the Coleman Band Boosters, and was a volunteer for the Coleman Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years.  For nine of those years, Jimmie was the fire department chaplain, fire chief captain, and assistant chief fire marshall.  Jimmie was a member of the Elm Street Church of Christ where he was an elder and deacon.  He loved fishing, hunting, and woodworking.  Most of all, Jimmie was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.  He loved spending time with his family, friends, and church family.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  His daily prayer was that he would be more like Christ.  He loved his family and was a ray of sunshine for all that knew him.   He was a true servant until the end.

Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dellene Meador Driskill; one brother, Jiggs Driskill; his sister; Joy Spivey; four brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his children, Gary Driskill and wife Connie of Coleman, David Driskill and wife Tammy of San Antonio, Jana Driskill  Hawkins and husband Joe of San Antonio; grandchildren, Chris Driskill of Brenham, Jennifer Baker of Coleman, Brandon Driskill and partner Nick Vasquez, Tracy and Kelly Driskill of San Antonio, Krishelle Hicks and husband Jason of San Antonio, Cody Needham of San Antonio, Taylor Needham of Austin, Hannah and Chloe Hawkins of San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Baylee Culwell, Ashley Driskill, Harlee Driskill, Jack Hicks, Callie Hicks, John David Hicks, Jackson Reid Driskill, Matthew Driskill; great-great-grandchildren, Kade Morris, Remy Martinez; sisters-in-law, Dorcia Holtz, Melba Baugh, Pat Driskill, Linda Laws; brother-in-law, E.W. Meador and wife Beth; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Smith, James Dietrich, James Tisdale, Melton Kennedy, Ray Habiger, Ricky Barnett, Danny Jameson, and elders and deacons of Elm Street Church of Christ.
