James (Jim) Hudson Mullins, age 70, of Novice, died on Sunday, January 28, 2018, in Bartonville, Texas. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Rough Creek Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Wayne Lewis, pastor of Novice United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Rough Creek Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.
James Hudson Mullins was born July 30, 1947 in Brownwood, the son of James W. Mullins and Virginia Hudson Mullins. Jim grew up on his family’s ranch near Novice, Coleman County, and attended school in Novice, graduating from there in 1965. He was a graduate of Texas Tech University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. On September 2, 1967, he married Charlotte Lee Frick at the First Baptist Church in Coleman. For over 30 years, Jim sold agriculture pharmaceuticals for American Cyanamid for 14 years and then for Walco International for 16 years. During his working career, he lived in Oklahoma City and Claude, Texas. He was named Salesman of the Year and also won many trips during his time with these companies. He was a member of the National Western Stock Show Association for 45 years and served on the board for several years for the Texas Cattle Feeders Association (TCFA). In 1990, he returned to ranching when he moved back to his family’s ranch near Novice, Texas. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Mullins; two children, Marni Mullins Tyson and husband Charles of Bellevue, Texas and James Lynn “Bubba” Mullins and Morgan of Celina, Texas; grandchildren, Rylee Mullins of Celina, Callie Tyson of Corpus Christi, Chad Tyson of Jacksonville, Florida and Grace Lambert of Celina; two sisters, Gina McCutchen and husband Harold of Bronte and Melissa Mullins of Kyle; numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marian Mullins Holton; his father-in-law, J. D. Frick and brother-in-law, Douglas Frick.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor’s favorite charity.
