Homer Harvey Horton, Jr., 67, of Coleman, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at his residence. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 200 East College Street, Coleman, with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Interment will be in the Coleman City Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Homer Harvey Horton, Jr. was born January 28, 1946 in Coleman to Homer Harvey Horton and Amy Sanders Horton. He grew up in Coleman and Brownwood. In 1967, Homer started Horton Tree Service in Fort Worth and later became a utility contractor when he started Northeast Service, Inc. Homer retired in 2008, letting his son's run the businesses he started, and moved back to Coleman. On December 22, 2009, Homer married Laurie Jennings in Coleman.

Homer was a very passionate and caring man. He touched everyone he came in contact with in some way. He never met a stranger and could call the wrong number and talk for 30 minutes, making a new friend. He worked hard, but always had time for his boys, whether it was throwing the ball around or fixing a mini bike. Homer loved classic cars, and often loaned several in his collection out for the parades in Coleman. He was a member of the Coleman County Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture and Tourist Bureau, Lake Brownwood Lions Club, charter member of the Texas Chapter of International Society of Arboriculture and a member of First Baptist Church in Coleman.

Homer is survived by his wife, Laurie Horton of Coleman; four sons, Tommy Horton and wife, Mary, of Decauter, Ricky Horton and wife, Ronda, of Weatherford, Danny Horton and wife, Barbara, of Boyd, Johnny Horton and wife, Tina of Godley; two step-children, Jimmy Ishmael of Blum, Jeanie Stevenson and husband, Slade, of Belton; three sisters, Patsy Ruth Gray of Mt. Ida, Arkansas, Sadie Mae Wood and husband, Charlie, of Coleman, Linda Louise Gober of Brownwood; one brother, David Ray Horton and wife, Nancy, of Lake Brownwood; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren with three more great-grandchildren on the way.

Homer was preceded in death by three sisters, Joyce Schafer, Francis Johnson, Dixie Baldwin; one brother, George Horton.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
