Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Herman Russell Watson, 85, of Coleman, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Holiday Hill Nursing Home in Coleman. He was born on April 9, 1941, in Cross Cut, Texas, to C.R. Watson and Willie Mae Slate Watson.

Herman grew up in Callahan, Brown, and Coleman counties, where he attended school and built the deep roots that would remain with him throughout his life. He was a farmer by heart, finding joy in caring for his land and spending time outdoors. That connection to the land was a lasting part of who he was. In addition to his life as a farmer, Herman worked for Martin Brick Company, the Coleman Housing Authority, and Higginbotham Brothers in Coleman.

Herman married Dorthy Faye Crane on December 29, 1958. After Dorothy died, Herman found love again and married Lennie Dee Dawson.

More than anything, Herman loved his family and friends immensely. He treasured time spent with them and cherished the many memories they made together over the years. His life was marked by devotion to those he loved and by the simple, steady values of hard work, loyalty, and fellowship.

He is survived by his wife, Lennie Watson; his children, Sharon Gay Watson, Russell Watson and wife Sherry, and Angie Nichols and husband Chris; his grandchildren, Cheyenne Brown, Kain Watson, Skylar Watson, and Nevaeh Watson; and his great-grandchild, Logan Brown. He is also survived by his brothers, James Watson and wife Esther and Joe Watson and wife Sharon, and by his sisters, Velma and Louise. Each of them carries forward the memory of his love, his presence, and the time they shared with him. Heman is also survived by his stepsons, Ricky Jo Dawson and Billy Jack Dawson along with their families.

Herman was preceded in death by his father, C.R. Watson; his mother, Willie Mae Slate Watson; and his wife, Dorothy Faye Watson.

He will be remembered with love by all who knew him, and his memory will remain a lasting blessing to his family and friends.

The family will host a visitation at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will follow in the Burkett Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to the Burkett Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 383, Burkett, Texas 76863.

We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Watson family by signing the guestbook on Herman’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Watson family.
