Hazel Gerene Rowe, beloved mother and best friend, left her wheelchair to walk with Jesus on January 20, 2024 at the age of 103 years old.
Hazel Gerene Rowe was born July 31, 1920 in Gouldbusk, Texas. She graduated as salutatorian from Mozelle High School in Coleman County in 1937. Gerene married Jack Row on March 1, 1940, and sadly he passed in February, 2000, just shy of their 60th Anniversary.
Often Gerene would move cities when her husband would receive a new position at work. They lived in many place in Texas, including Amarillo, Anson, Coleman, Houston, Lubbock and Plainview. They also lived in cities, such as Carlsbad, New Mexico, Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Stuttgart, Arkansas. Many sweet memories and friends were made in all those places. Throughout her life, Gerene would work wherever she lived. She received both LVN and LPN licenses and she also obtained her realtor’s license.
Gerene cared for others as a nurse, volunteered and did kind things for friends and family. Gerene had many talents and was always participating in doing crafts. She would paint and sew dresses for porcelain baby dolls. Gerene also made clothes for her daughter, Jan, who would be getting ready for a date. Many times, you would find Gerene doing a puzzle. When it was completed, she would invite everyone to see it. If anyone put the puzzle back in the box before her daughter could take a picture to show others, they would be in real trouble. Gerene was a great believer and follower in her Savior, Jesus Christ. She would be in church whenever the door was open and many times helped others with church activities. Gerene was a competitive bowler and had many trophies to show her success. She would often offer suggestions if your ball hit the gutter. Gerene was also a big fan of the Texas Rangers and had a shirt to prove it.
Her last residence was perhaps the sweetest, at Heartland House in Lubbock. There, she made many friends and was cared for by wonderful, loving staff and administration. There are not enough words to express our appreciation. They are not only our friends but our family.
Gerene is survived by her daughter, Jan Lupton and husband, Sonny; granddaughter, Lisa Kuehne and great grandson, Mason Kuehne of Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Rowe; grandson, Leslie Sherman; brother, Welson Revel and sisters, Pauline Powers, Willie C. Gilbreath and Faye Williams.
She donated her body to UMC for medical science. A private family inurnment will be held in the Coleman City Cemetery, next to her husband and grandson.
Messages of comfort and remembrance may be left for the family on Gerene’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Rowe family.
