Gregory Kent Wells

Gregory Kent Wells, our loving father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

Greg was born on March 14, 1963, in Coleman, Texas. He was the baby boy of Finnis Ray Wells and Alice Wells. Greg attended school in Coleman and graduated with the class of 1981. He started his lengthy career in the oil industry with Bandera where he worked for many years before starting his journey with Offshore Joint Services. Greg traveled all over the world experiencing all types of cultures and people. He managed to leave his special impact and remained close friends with people from his work and numerous travels. Greg ended his career in the oilfield with CRC where he excelled in his skill and, yet again, managed to make lasting impressions and friendships.

He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, and especially a good camping trip. He loved a good dirt road, good music, and enjoyed a beautiful beach or lake view. He saw many beautiful places and had some amazing experiences. Greg lived, experienced, and explored a life not many get to have. He was a heck of a storyteller and loved a good laugh. Most importantly, Greg just loved. He had a natural ability to put you at ease and be liked and loved by all without even trying. He made lasting impressions for his kind heart and wit and rarely met a stranger. The world will be a bit dimmer without his shine, but the love he had for his children and grandchildren will carry on. He loved his family deeply and was proud to be their Pops.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Alice Wells and his sister, Barbara Kirkpatrick, and brother-in-law Charles Kirkpatrick.

Greg is survived by his wife, Emma Wells; his brother, Ervin Wells and wife Brenda of Novice; and his dear aunt, Verna Bolton of Brownwood. His is also survived by his two proudest accomplishments, his daughter Stefanie Mares and husband A.J. of Brenham and his son, Thomas Wells and wife Julie of Lubbock. Greg also loved his five grandchildren, Braxton, Reid, and Holland Wells, Easton “Pancho” and Ace “Lefty” Mares. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will host a visitation on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
