Gordon Ray Jeter

Gordon Jeter, 57, of Coleman, died Friday, May 25, 2018 at Coleman County Medical Center.  A memorial service honoring his life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. John Stanislaw officiating.  There will be a visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

He was born Gordon Ray Jeter on December 9, 1960 in Hobbs, New Mexico, the son of Warren Douglas Jeter, Sr. and Dorothy Mildred Baines Jeter.  He grew up and attended school in McCamey and graduated from high school in Fort Stockton.  On December 19, 1981, he married Jonette Yeary at First Baptist Church in Fort Stockton.  In 1984, they moved to Odessa and later moved to Midland in 1989.  They moved to Coleman in 2014.

Gordon was the Facility Manager for JAL Welding.  He served one term on the Coleman City Council, was a member of the Coleman County Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture/Tourist Bureau and a member of First Baptist Church in Coleman.  Gordon was an avid sportsman and fisherman.  He loved to hunt deer and quail and would fish no matter what time of year or how cold it was outside.  Gordon was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.  He was a great role model to grandkids whom he loved very much.  He was unselfish, often saving to give gifts to his family.  Gordon wanted to be self-sufficient and live off the grid.  He loved cooking and had his very own brand of salsa that he called “Monkey Salsa”.  He had a quick wit, strong humor and would help anybody in need.

Survivors include his wife, Jonette Jeter of Coleman; two children, Meghan Sandberg and husband, Ian, of San Angelo, Sam Jeter of Coleman; two grandchildren, Lily Anne Sandberg and Bradley Ray Sandberg, both of San Angelo; one brother, Warren Douglas Jeter, Jr. and wife, Jackie, of Katy; one sister, Doris Loraine Norton of Hemphill; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Jeter of Abilene, several nieces and nephews and his faithful, loving companion, Ranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ben Franklin Jeter.

The family suggests that memorials in memory of Gordon be given to the West Texas Boys Ranch Foundation, P. O. Box 4077, San Angelo, Texas  76905-4077 or the donor’s favorite charity.
