Gerald Thomas (“G.T”) Wisener was born in Coleman, Texas on August 31, 1940, to Gene Tyler and Bessie Juanita Powe Wisener. He was only two months old when his father died of blood poisoning. Gerald was raised by his mother and other family members while he attended public schools in Coleman and became a member of the Coleman Boy Scouts. In addition to being voted Class Favorite, he starred as “Cookie” in the senior class play, Cookie’s Capers, before he graduated from Coleman High School on May 29, 1959. He attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas to study animal husbandry.
After marrying Brenda Elaine Brooks (God’s choice for him) on February 12, 1965, he moved to Houston, Texas where he worked for Hydro Services cleaning tanks at refineries. He moved on to work at Geospace Technologies where he assembled seismograph machines for land exploration.
Gerald later joined the Western Electric company in Houston as a warehouseman, where he supplied telephones and pulled orders for Southwestern Bell. He personally pulled the phone orders for John Kennedy in the company of CIA agents, Lyndon B. and Lady Bird Johnson, and Richard Nixon. He retired from AT&T Technologies, as the company became known after the Bell System breakup, after working for them for 24 years at the age of 49.
During his younger years, he enjoyed a love of woodworking, hunting deer, and deep-sea fishing. The end of his life blessed him with the return home to Coleman with friends and a growing family. He was able to work on the land left to him by his mother with his favorite dog, Rose, a red heeler.
He will always be remembered as the daddy who tried to take care of everything. He was always more than willing to give whatever he had to offer to his daughters and grandchildren. His favorite words of advice were, “Don’t look back.” These three words of wisdom can be attributed to Isaiah 43:18-19 and Ephesians 4:22-24.
Geral Thomas Wisener is survived by his loving wife, Brenda, and two daughters: Melissa Elaine Farr and husband Britt Wayne Farr, and Katherine Ruth Brooks and her significant other, James. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Trevor Ray Brooks and wife, Hailey, and Sheridan Nicole Gowin and husband, John Paul (J.P.) Gowin.
