Gerald Leslie “Gerry” Pond, 66, of Glen Cove, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2025, leaving behind a lifetime of love, lessons, and laughter.

Born May 2, 1959, in Midland, Texas, Gerry was the son of Walter Clark and Dorothy Ellen (McDonald) Pond. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, enlisting on October 30, 1978, and retiring on November 30, 1998. During his distinguished career, he traveled to 72 countries and took part in numerous operations and deployments. Among his many awards and accomplishments, he was especially proud of becoming a Shellback and being named Senior Sailor of the Quarter for an entire battle group.

Throughout his naval service, Gerry held a variety of roles, beginning as a Boiler Technician and serving as Oil King aboard several destroyers, including the USS Julius A. Furer, USS Goldsboro, and USS Waddell, where he was part of the ship's decommissioning crew. Later, he served as a Brig Supervisor before finishing his career as a top recruiter with the Naval Recruiting District Dallas. Over his five years at Recruiting Station Irving, his office earned “Small Station of the Year” twice. He concluded his service at Recruiting Station Abilene, retiring in 1998 and returning home to Glen Cove to raise his family.

After his military service, Gerry remained a strong presence in his community. He was the proud “Voice of Panther Creek Football” from 2000–2002 and could always be found cheering at track and cross-country meets—often wearing his signature neon orange shirt—supporting not just his own children but every athlete on the field. He never missed a chance to cheer from the sidelines, showing up with pride and heart.

Gerry was known for his humor, his strength, and the way he showed his love through actions more than words. He taught his daughters how to be “Miss Fix-It,” how to stand on her own two feet, and that most things—whether in life or at home—can be repaired with patience and determination. His passions included sports, rock and metal music, and cars—especially when they were loud and fast. He was proud of his many accomplishments, but what he cherished most was the pride he felt in his children, whom he never missed an opportunity to brag about.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Clark and Dorothy Ellen Pond, and his grandparents, T.L. (Thurman) and Viola (Reeves) Pond.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marcy (Marcella Faires) Pond; his children Krystle (Bryan, Braley, and Bryson) Schreick, Tracey (Leona) Pond, and Austin (Brandy) Pond; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Gerry’s legacy of service, laughter, and love lives on in every life he touched—and in every small thing he taught others to fix, build, or believe in.

A celebration of life will be held at Valera Baptist Church on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 1:00 P.M.

Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
