Gaylon Mankins

Gaylon Mankins, age 74, of Coleman, died Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Coleman County Medical Center. Gaylon's wishes were to be cremated and his family will have a private memorial service at a later late.

He was born on July 6, 1942 in Santa Anna, Texas, the son of Dee Mankins and Jessie Estes Mankins. He grew up in Coleman where he also attended school, graduating from Coleman High School, Class of 1961. While in high school, Gaylon played for the Coleman Bluecats and earned the nickname of "Swivel Hips." He was an avid life-long football fan of the Coleman Bluecats, the Oklahoma Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys. In 1970 he married Monty Jean Farmer in Novice and she preceded him in death on June 7, 1982, while they were living in Lewisville, where he was a meter reader and trouble-shooter for the City of Lewisville. Following the death of his wife, he and his children returned to live in Coleman where he was employed by the City of Coleman for many years as a meter reader. He was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Steven Mankins of Collinsville, Illinois; one daughter, Jennifer Mankins of Brownwood; two grandchildren, Nathan Allen and Daniyl Allen both of Brownwood; two sisters, June Thompson of Coleman and Shirley Gardner of Tyler.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
