Faye Smith Briggs

Faye Smith Briggs, age 90, of Coleman, died Thursday, December 15, 2016, at her residence in Coleman. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18, in the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dayton Ferguson officiating. Interment will be in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Faye Smith on May 28, 1926 in Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of W. H. Smith and Zelma Jameson Smith. Faye grew up in Coleman County and attended school at Anderson. Later in life she completed her GED and trained to be a nurses aide, which greatly assisted her in taking care of her parents and other family members. On December 10, 1943 she married W. E. Briggs in Novice and they celebrated over 72 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on September 1, 2016. She was a life-long resident of Coleman and a member of North Coleman Baptist Church. Until moving to the farm, she was an active member of the church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sue Briggs White and husband Roger of Coleman and Denise Briggs McCarson and husband Andy of Lavernia; seven grandchildren, Christi, Aubrey, Micah, Andrea, Dawn, Tony and Miranda; eight great-grandchildren, Audra, Becca, Adrian, Dayton, Weston, Brittany, Lyn and Huntleigh; three great-great grandchildren, Brailey, Jacey, and McKinlee.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ina Beeler and two brothers, John Smith and Dub Smith.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.
