Emmitt Edward Rankin, known affectionately as Eddie, was born on September 17, 1934, in Conroe, Texas. He passed away on May 24, 2024, in Coleman, Texas.
 
As a young man, he moved with his family to Coleman. In 1952, Eddie graduated from Coleman High School. It was during this time that he began to carve out his path towards a successful career that would touch the lives of many. Eddie was a dedicated and skilled consultant in the oil field industry. His expertise lay in tubing and fracking and he held numerous patents in his field. Throughout his career, Eddie worked for renowned companies such as Schlumberger, Halliburton, and Cudd Energy Services and lived and worked in many countries while associated with these companies.
 
On January 6, 1990, Eddie exchanged vows with Kay Taylor, in Burkett. Their union was a source of strength and joy for both of them. Following their marriage, Kay traveled with Eddie to many places all over the world. In 2012, they came home to live in Coleman.
 
Those who knew Eddie well can attest to his wonderful and giving personality and deep love for his family.
 
Eddie leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Rankin and Mandy Neff Rankin; his daughter Lynn Ann Mota; his brother R.L. Rankin; his sister Letha Willis and his nephew Derry Rankin.
 
He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Rankin of Coleman; his children Diane Shaw and husband Joe of Marshall, Suzanne Brown of Benbrook, Amber Hardin and husband Greg of Coleman, and Christy Haynes and husband Kelly of Lubbock. To numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Pop". Eddie is also survived by three nephews, James Emmitt Rankin, Terry Rankin, and Jay Lee Rankin.
 
Emmitt Edward Rankin will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace knowing that he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he loved.
 
No services will be held. At his request, Eddie donated his body to medical research at Texas Tech University Health Science Center.
