Elsie (Low) Burton

Eden

Elsie Low Burton, age 74, of Eden, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at her residence.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman.  Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the Mt. View Cemetery Pavilion.  Interment will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Elsie Dinell Low on October 28, 1944, in Pecos, Reeves County, Texas, a daughter of Robert Samuel Low and Thelma Ailene Walker Low Brown.  Elsie grew up in Balmorhea, Lamesa and Moran.  At the age of 9, she moved to Coleman with her family where she attended school.  On June 28, 1959 she married Jimmy Lee Brooks and they had two daughters.  She later married Clayton Burton on January 9, 1991 in Brownwood.  Clayton and Elsie had been best friends all of their lives.

She graduated from the Shannon School of Nursing as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.  For 28 years she worked at Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital in Coleman and then for Coleman County Medical Center.  She then worked for several years for Brownwood Home Health, retiring from there.  She was a loving and dedicated nurse.   She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.   She loved gardening, being outdoors, hunting and fishing, arts and crafts and crocheting.

Elsie was a loving and dedicated mother and adored her family.  Her family considers that she was a gift from God to them.

She is survived by her husband, Clayton Burton of Eden; two daughters, LaVonda Eubanks and Cindy Dian Watts both of Eden; five grandchildren, LaChrisha LaSha Kendrick of Eden, Summer Brittni Cook of Eden, Quincy Allen James of Brady, Zachary Jimmy Scott Brooks of Coleman, Miranda Nicole Watts of Liberty Hill; two step-sons, Randell Paul Burton of Louisiana; Eric Donnell Burton of Georgia; step-grandchildren, Brittney Lea Burton and Clayton James Burton; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Doris Jeanette Keeney of Midland; sister-in-law, Sue Low of Coleman.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, David Jimmy Scott Eubanks, Destiny Devon James; two great-grandchildren, Mya Heaven Lea Wells and Hannah Nicole Stidham; brother, Robert Wayne Low.
