Edith "Tincy" Turney

November 17, 1925 — June 20, 2025

Santa Anna

Edith Turney passed from this life on June 20, 2025. She was born November 17, 1925, at Whon, Texas, the first-born child to Alfred Charlie and Josephine Harrison Bible. Her given name was Edith Elwanda Bible. The new baby was so small and cute that folks called her “Tincy.” The name stayed with her throughout her life.

Tincy grew up at Whon and went to school at Rockwood. She attended cosmetology school in Brownwood. She married Rex Turney December 30, 1951, at Whon, where they began their married life.

Tincy worked for over fifty years as a beautician. She was always involved in creating things, either knitting, painting, fixing up old houses or cooking. She was a skilled cook and a few of her most requested items were apricot fried pies, blackberry jelly, whiskey fruitcake cookies and cornbread dressing with giblet gravy.

China painting was her favorite creative expression and passion. She was always ready to paint, take lessons from a new instructor, share ideas, or visit with like-minded friends. She was a founding member of the Porcelain Arts Club in Brownwood.

In between raising children and working in her beauty shop, she helped her parents and in- laws. Once a week, however, it was ‘The Bridge Club.’ These ladies met for bridge, and the hostess cooked and served a full meal before the cards were dealt. Very few events could take precedence over The Bridge Club. Tincy was the last surviving member.

Tincy was preceded in death by her husband Rex, a daughter Linda Boscamp, a sister, Doris June Sanderford, and daughter-in- law, Marsha Turney, .

She is survived by three children, Gary Sudderth (Nancy), Rebecca Turney and Mark Turney; four grandchildren, Denise Grant (Victor), Ingrid McGinty (Devin), Jon Turney (Whitney) and Matthew Turney. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren: brother Odis Bible (Nina), as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Atwood, his staff, and everyone at Coleman County Medical Center for their excellent care. Special thanks to Melody Allen Griffith and Irma Landaverde for their kind and loving care.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 10:00 at the Whon Cemetery, in Whon, Texas. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial donations may be made to the Whon Cemetery Fund C/O Thomas Rutherford, 6732 FM 2633, Santa Anna, Texas 76878.
