Edith May Gardiner “Pede” Adams passed away of natural causes at home in Shields, Texas on May 14, 2026, at the age of 96. She was born on February 23, 1930, in Exeter, Rhode Island to Mabel and Clarence Earl Gardiner.

After a brief career as a dental assistant, she married the love of her life, Budd Adams in 1951. They began their married life by following his Navy career to Corpus Christi, Texas and Pensacola, Florida. When they settled in Buffalo, New York, near his family in East Aurora, Pede volunteered as a Welcome Wagon Hostess and loved being the neighborhood party planner. Pede and Budd started their family in New York and then moved to Shreveport, Louisiana when he was transferred with Western Electric. Pede spent her adult life raising their three children and supporting all of Budd’s endeavors. She was active as a volunteer at St. Mark’s Cathedral where she ran the K4 Sunday School Program for many years. Pede and Budd enjoyed a monthly Couple’s Bridge Club and Pede enjoyed playing in two Ladies Bridge Clubs. Her girl friends always looked forward to her annual Christmas luncheon where everyone went home with a gift and Santa was often represented by her grandson. Pede and Budd also enjoyed their years of membership in the Shreveport Power Squadron where they developed many life-long friendships.

After a full life in Shreveport, Pede moved to Coleman County to live with her daughter and son-in-law at their ranch. Pede refused to let her age slow her down. She enjoyed trips to the Coleman Senior Center for lunch and Wednesday Bingo, and on Thursdays she headed to Watson Winery for the local ladies gathering.

Pede is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Aaron Frank “Budd” Adams, her siblings: Bill Gardiner, Chip Gardiner, Margaret Hathaway, and Sandford Gardiner, all of Rhode Island. She is survived by her sister, Ella Tibbits also of Rhode Island. Pede leaves behind her three children, Susan Adams Faulbaum (Rand) of Shields, Texas, Glenn Aaron Adams (Lori) of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Peter Gardiner Adams (Liz) of Frisco, Texas. Three grandchildren, Erin Kristine Falbaum Hinek (Frank) of Decatur, Georgia, Evan Frank Falbaum (Erica) of Fredericksburg, Texas, Aerin Elise Simpson of Carrolton, Texas, along with great-grandchildren, Owen Frank Hinek and Arthur Hamel Hinek.

Pede will be remembered as a devoted, caring wife and loving mother. And she never met a party she did not love.

“When tomorrow starts without me,

And I’m not there to see,

If the sun should rise and find your eyes

All filled with tears for me;

I wish so much you wouldn’t cry

The way you did today,

While thinking of the many things,

We didn’t get to say.

I know how much your love me,

As much as I love you,

And each time you think of me,

I know you’ll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,

Please try to understand,

That an angel came and called my name,

And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,

In heaven far above

And that I’d have to leave behind

All those I dearly love.

So when tomorrow starts without me,

Don’t think we’re far apart,

For every time you think of me,

I’m right here in your heart.”
