Derry Lynn Rankin

August 1, 1956 — April 29, 2017

Derry Lynn Rankin, 60, of Coleman, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Coleman County Medical Center. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel , 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with John Baum officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Derry Lynn Rankin was born August 1, 1956 in Coleman to R.L. Rankin and Bonnie Miller Rankin. Derry grew up in Coleman, graduating from Coleman High School in 1976. On December 2, 1978, he married Tracy Whitfield at Central Baptist Church in Coleman.

Derry was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He loved farming and ranching. He enjoyed helping his daughters, Melissa and Stephanie, with their 4-H and FFA projects and was always ready to help others with their projects. Derry also helped and supported the Coleman County Junior Livestock Show. Derry owned TATPA Pulling Sled and was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Tracy Rankin of Coleman, two daughters, Melissa Johnson and husband, Jason, of Haslett, Stephanie Rankin of Kingsland; a special son he never had, Cody Fikes and wife, Rikki, of Coleman; his mother, Bonnie Rankin of Coleman; three brothers, Jay Lee Rankin and wife, Shirley, of Coleman, James Rankin of Odessa and his twin brother, Terry Rankin of Coleman. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides his father, Derry was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Emmitt and Mandy Neff Rankin and Jesse James and Hallie Stanfield Miller.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at the funeral home.

In memory of Derry, the family has requested that donations be made to the Coleman County Junior Livestock Association, P. O. Box 292, Coleman, Texas 76834
