David "Doc" Dockter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Coleman County Medical Center in Coleman, Texas. Born on November 6, 1957, in Greenville, Mississippi, Doc lived a life marked by devotion—to his family, his community, and his calling.

Doc proudly dedicated 36 years of service to the Abilene Fire Department, where he not only answered the call to protect others but also forged countless friendships that lasted a lifetime. His commitment to the profession was underscored by his membership in the International Association of Fire Fighters 1044 Abilene Association, where his camaraderie and professionalism were deeply valued. Through his years in the line of duty, Doc became known for his selfless spirit, always willing to help someone in need, whether it was on or off the clock.

Beyond his distinguished career, Doc had a passion for supporting his community. He was an active member of the Coleman Rodeo Association, reflecting his love of western heritage, horsemanship, and the bonds formed at community events. Those who knew Doc remember his genuine smile, his big bear hugs with a “give me some love” and constant willingness to lend a hand.

Family was the cornerstone of Doc’s life. On October 28, 2000, he married his beloved wife, Cindy Triplitt Dockter, in Coleman. Together, they celebrated 25 years of marriage, building a life founded on mutual respect, love, and shared joy. Doc’s affection for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He is survived by his cherished wife, Cindy; his daughters, Jamie Myers (Jarrod) and Lauren Dockter (Jason); and his adored grandchildren, Kenzlee and Kaiden Myers. Each of them carries forward his legacy of warmth, humor, and steadfast devotion.

He is also survived by his brother, Paul Dockter (Dawn); his father, Lenard Lester Dockter; his mother-in-law, Dona Triplitt and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Dorothy Lucille Welch Richburg.

Doc’s love for his grandchildren knew no bounds. He treasured moments spent with Kenzlee and Kaiden, often sharing stories, laughter, and happy adventures together. Some of his fondest memories were made in the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, tending to his tractor, and spending time in the barn with the horses. These simple pleasures brought him happiness and peace.

Friends and family are invited to honor Doc’s memory at several upcoming gatherings. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W Pecan St, Coleman, TX 76834. The funeral service will follow on Thursday, August 20, at 1:00 p.m., also at Stevens Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Valera Cemetery. A reception will take place later that day from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at RLVenue, 415 S. Commercial Avenue, Coleman. Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.

Doc Dockter’s indelible spirit, generosity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, and kindness that will not be forgotten.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to Coleman County Volunteer Fire Department, C/O Sarah Beal, 5275 FM 2131, Coleman, Texas 76834.
