Darla Sue Johnson, a cherished soul born on March 3, 1967, in Coleman, Texas, peacefully passed away in her hometown on June 7, 2026. Her life was a testament to devotion—devotion to family, community, and the simple pleasures that make life rich and meaningful.
A lifelong resident of Coleman, Darla's roots ran deep in the soil of her beloved town. She attended local schools where her journey began, and her story unfolded within the warm embrace of the community she loved. For many years, she dedicated her career to the Parts Department at Johnson Implement, where her hard work and friendly spirit left an indelible mark on colleagues and customers alike.
On April 21, 1986, Darla married Michael Bryan Johnson in a ceremony held in Coleman—a union that would blossom into a lifelong partnership filled with mutual love and respect. Together, they built a family foundation that became her greatest joy. She followed Michael wherever his job working in the construction business took him. They lived in Grand Junction, Colorado, Hawthorn, Nevada, College Station and Roanoke before settling back in Coleman.
Darla’s heart belonged first and foremost to her treasured family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved with an unmatched tenderness. Her warm smile and open arms were always ready to welcome them, creating memories around every corner. Her son, Derek Bryan Johnson, and his wife, Paige Barnett Johnson, along with their children Ralston Ray Hinds and Kelby Rae Johnson, carry forward her legacy of love. Her daughters, Shaedin LeAnn Row and her husband Steven Daniel Row, with their children Axel Lee Row, Axton Joe Row, and the soon-to-arrive Axlynn Shae Row, keep her memory alive in their hearts. Raelie Darlene Soda Pop Johnson and significant other, Jacob William Perry, along with their children Kaitlyn Jane Gilmore-Johnson and Kyson James Kay Johnson, continue to reflect Darla’s nurturing spirit.
She was surrounded by a loving circle of family and friends: her husband Michael Bryan Johnson, brother Michael Vern Brooker of Santa Anna, sister Lisa Smith and husband Tony Smith of Baird, and her sisters-in-law Gwen Huggins and husband Phil, Kaye Scott and husband Dwain, and Vicki Hambright and husband Mark—all devoted to her and cherishing every memory. Countless nieces, nephews, and dear friends further enriched Darla’s life, alongside her loyal four-legged companion, Stella.
Darla found joy in the freedom of riding on the back of a motorcycle, the wind carrying her cares away. Traveling was also a fun experience. Michael and Darla took trips to Alaska, Puerto Rico, Nassau Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands. Equally, she cherished spending time around the campfire, sharing stories and laughter with those she loved most. These simple pleasures spoke to her heart’s desire—to connect deeply, to live fully, and to love without reserve.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Glenda Sue Schulle Brooker, and her in-laws, Cecil and Herma Jean Corder Johnson. Their memories remain a cherished part of her story, woven into the fabric of her life with love and reverence.
Visitation will be held on June 11, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, located at 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas. The funeral service will follow on June 12, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. A committal service will be held at the Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
