Born on March 7, 1949, in Coleman, she was a lifelong resident of the area where she attended school and forged lasting memories that shaped her vibrant spirit.

Known affectionately by many as the “Queen of the Silver Dollar,” Cherry's outgoing personality was one you would never forget. She found joy in simple pleasures such as quiet mornings with a good cup of coffee, tending to her beloved plants, fishing, and engaging in the outdoors—a true nature lover who embraced the world around her.

Cherry’s life was marked by her dedication to family and community, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. She is survived by her children: Billy Berry and his wife Molly; Kirk Faries and his wife Monica; Rhonda Faries; and Teddy Faries. Her family extends further to include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were blessed by her loving presence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vinnie V. “Buddy” Slayton and Ada Faye Moore Slayton; her daughter, Traci McWhirter; and her brothers, Teddy Slayton, Lloyd Slayton, and Vince Slayton.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, located at 400 W Pecan St, Coleman, TX 76834.
